Bringing in the harvest

I have been painting away this summer, and now, with the fall equinox just around the corner, I'm happy to share the art that has emerged from that time, in the form of paintings, cards, and a 2020 calendar.

It runs in the family

At 91, my mother still inspires me with all her creative energy. With an unexpected windfall, she just had an art studio built behind her house where she works on clay sculptures several days a week.

The ultimate creative act

With Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday, I’ve been thinking about how parenthood is the ultimate creative endeavor. What an amazing process it is to create and raise a small human!

How a painting is born

I’m always fascinated to learn how other people go about their work, whether it’s developing cookbook recipes or rehabilitating abandoned dogs. So in the hopes that this is of interest, today I’ll share a bit about my artistic process.

When doubts creep in

A woman I recently met at a dinner party told me that she has one of my cards on her altar, right next to a card featuring the Dalai Lama. I am honored and touched that my art means so much to her.

Well, I wanted to write a heartfelt and inspiring new year’s message, one that summed up this crazy year and offered sparks of hope for 2019…

Happy heart today

I just read this great tweet: “So my 3 year old appears to have misheard the phrase ‘happy holiday’ this morning and has been going round wishing everybody ‘happy heart today’.”

Selected Poems
cowlick
some part of me
still wild

the time we are given…
sparks rise through darkness
to join the stars

home from errands—
a hero’s welcome
from the dog

what remains
of the mountain
sand between my toes

lines of foam
over and over the sea
writes its story

fog-shrouded coast
we listen
to the view

for better or for worse
our lights and darks
tumbling together

our easy silence
every puddle
sky-deep

for tracks . . .
who was I before
I was tamed?
